No food may be manufactured, imported, distributed, advertised or sold in Nigeria unless registered with NAFDAC (advertisement guideline 1.2); the label must give the name and address of the manufacturer, packer, distributor, importer, exporter or vendor, and an imported cosmetic must be registered through a Nigerian local agent holding the manufacturer's power of attorney.

Food labelling must be in English (Guide to Food Labelling 1.3); cosmetic labels must conform to the Cosmetic Products Labelling Regulations, as required by the imported-cosmetics registration guideline (8.1).

Nutrition labelling becomes mandatory when a nutrition or permitted health claim is made (Guide 12.1), and food advertisement applications must carry evidence substantiating claims (advertisement guideline 3.1.4).
